The Trans Ova team is gearing up for another Fall breeding season of providing reproductive services for our sheep and goat clients. Below is the small ruminant schedule for IVF, embryo transfer, conventional flushing, and LAP AI procedures at our Sioux Center, Chillicothe, and Bryan locations. In addition to the small ruminant scheduled procedures at our locations, clients also have the option to have the Trans Ova team come to them to perform any of these procedures right on their farm or ranch. What is In Vitro Fertilization? In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is the process of creating embryos from oocytes (unfertilized egg cells) by fertilizing them with semen in a Petri dish. Oocytes are first collected from the ovaries of donors by laparoscopically guided follicular aspiration. They are then matured in a Petri dish and fertilized 20-24 hours later. Conventional or sexed-frozen semen may be used for fertilization. Oocytes then develop in an incubator for six days, at which point the resulting viable embryos are transferred into recipients.
