Can I register my cloned animal?

In the livestock world (cattle, pigs, sheep and goats), most breeds allow producers to register their cloned animals, but it is always good to check with your breed registry ahead of time to understand the requirements.
- Most breeds will ask that you simply identify the animal as a cloned animal, and they may add the suffix ETN to distinguish them from ET and IVF derived animals which have the suffix ET.
- They may also ask for DNA submission to show that the genetic donor and the cloned animal are a genetic match.
- Some breed associations will allow producers to use the DNA that we submit when calves are born, some will ask that you resubmit your own DNA sample.
- Other breed associations may request an ABC form accompany the registration application. These forms come from the IETS (International Embryo Transfer Association).
- The forms detail the cell line production as well as cloning and implant detail involved in the production of the animal(s).
