Whose Birthday is Celebrated This Month?
July 5, 2021, marks the 25th anniversary of the birth of Dolly the sheep…the first mammalian cloned animal produced from an adult cell(cells from the mammary tissue of her genetic donor were used to produce the cell line scientists used in the cloning process). Dolly was produced by the Roslin Institute at the University of Edinburgh. She marked a breakthrough that is hailed as one of the great discoveries of the last 50 years and frankly, let’s be honest, I would not be writing this blog without her. We salute Dolly the sheep, and her namesake – Dolly Parton, as we celebrate her ongoing legacy. The science that produced Dolly continues to be used at Trans Ova Genetics today as we produce genetic twins to your livestock rockstars. And it works in tandem with Gene Editing technology that is utilized by many of our clients for agricultural, biopharmaceutical, and medical model purposes. The pioneering research that led to Dolly, continues to pave the way for scientific developments, discoveries, and game-changing technology across the world. Many new breakthroughs in agriculture and human medicine have been made thanks to the most famous sheep in the world. At Trans Ova Genetics, we declare it “SALUTE TO DOLLY” month, and in honor of her birth, 25 years ago, will be offering a $25 discount on all Genetic Preservation and Express Tissue Bank packages purchased this month. For more information on how you can participate in this legacy by preserving your livestock rockstar or cloning your great one, simply call Trans Ova Genetics at 1-800-999-3586 ext 3104. To honor Dolly, I’d like to close by singing the most famous sheep song I know – “Baa, Ram, Ewe….Baa, Ram, Ewe…
