Trans Ova Genetics’ internship program not only offers students hands-on experiences in advanced reproductive technologies but provides Trans Ova with a pipeline of well-qualified candidates for full time employment.
During their time at Trans Ova, interns learn more about our company mission, vision, and values and work closely with professionals in various aspects of animal genetics. Internships also open the door for students and recent graduates to explore opportunities before entering the workforce.
“I was drawn to Trans Ova’s internship program because of the opportunity to step foot into the company and learn more about their job opportunities before committing to a full-time position,” Ruben Lopez, professional services embryologist and spring 2023 intern, said.
Even though interns work in a specific department, supervisors encourage interns to explore and learn about other departments within the company.
2022 Client Service Intern Emily Fry said, “You’re taught the ropes, see the results, and get to rep the brand with pride; it was truly the best experience I had as a young adult.”
While gaining skills and industry knowledge, interns also experience our company culture. For 2023 Client Service Representative Intern Bailey Farrer, culture is what drew her back to start her career.
“Being part of a team that valued my personal and professional growth played a significant role in my intern to full time employment experience,” Farrer said. “Moving 10 hours from home to pursue this career was easier knowing that I not only have coworkers, but people who treat me like family.”
Farrer started full time in spring of 2024 as a sexed semen lab technician.
“I never felt like an intern,” Raegan Feldner, 2024 marketing intern and current marketing specialist, said. “From day one, I felt like a valued colleague, and that was a huge part of my decision to come back full time.”
Trans Ova Genetics internships also enable students to solidify their passions and career pursuits. Our internships expose students to experiences outside the classroom and confirm or deny if those experiences fit each intern’s aspirations.
Cody Bailey, 2007 professional services intern, had a good idea that cattle reproduction and embryo transfer was his passion, so he applied for an internship with Trans Ova.
“I knew Trans Ova was the best and I wanted to find out if this was the career path I wanted to pursue,” Bailey said.
It was, and now Bailey works for Trans Ova as a professional services technician.
“I got to see and do a lot of things I would have never been exposed to if I had not taken the chance to try something new,” Patti Anderson, 2006 animal husbandry intern, said. “At the time, I did not have a definitive 5-year plan and my goal was to continue to work at a place where I felt fulfilled and happy. I’m still here 13 years later!”
2016 Professional Services Intern Shannon Duxbury knew she wanted to be an embryologist after college and felt Trans Ova was the best place to start her journey.
“I wanted to learn from the best in the industry,” Duxbury said. “My internship allowed me to do just that.”
Duxbury started with Trans Ova full time after graduating from South Dakota State in 2017.
Trans Ova interns in every department make valuable connections inside and outside of the company that help jumpstart their career.
