Trans Ova Genetics Advanced Technologies (TOGAT) actively supports the preservation of rare, critical, and endangered species through advanced reproductive technologies.
Many conservancy organizations and zoos face challenges in propagating these species due to low breeding populations and the risk of inbreeding among closely related individuals. As a result, many zoos garner “frozen zoos” to help preserve their rare and endangered animals’ genetics.
TOGAT assists in these preservation efforts by leveraging core services such as embryo transfer (ET), in vitro fertilization (IVF), and cloning. These technologies play a crucial role in propagating animals from low-population breeds and species.
Since the year 2000, Trans Ova has been pioneering in this field, collaborating with ACT to achieve significant milestones. Notably, TOGAT contributed to the cloning of the first endangered species, the Gaur Noah, gestated in a Bos Taurus cow named Bessie—a landmark achievement featured on the cover of Time magazine. Subsequently, TOGAT cloned a Banteng using a similar process.
Over the years, Trans Ova has continued to advance cross-species cloning efforts, using common cattle, pigs, sheep, and goats as gestational recipients. Presently, several projects are underway with additional initiatives in the planning stages.
TOGAT extends discounts for Genetic Preservation or Express Tissue Bank services to organizations preserving rare, critical, and endangered species, such as the Livestock Conservancy Financial support from TOGAT enhances these preservation efforts, ensuring these precious animals are safeguarded from extinction.
