What are Recipient Options?
Once embryos are ready for transfer, you need recipients prepared to carry those pregnancies. Trans Ova offers flexible recipient options based on your operation, facilities, schedule and management preferences.
Some producers use client-owned recipients that are synchronized and managed within their own herd. Others choose Trans Ova-managed recipients, where available, to reduce the daily management load and keep the recipient process closely coordinated with the embryo plan. The right choice depends on your goals, location, recipient availability and how much of the process you want to manage yourself.
How Recipient Options Work
Recipient planning is not one-size-fits-all. Most producers choose one of two paths: using their own recipients or working with Trans Ova-managed recipient options when available.
Client-Owned Recipients
You provide and manage your own recipient animals, with synchronization and transfer timing coordinated around your embryo plan. Transfers may take place on-farm, at a Trans Ova facility or through another approved transfer setup, depending on location and service availability.
Trans Ova-Managed Recipients
When available, Trans Ova can provide recipients that are housed, synchronized and managed through our program. This option can help reduce the workload of preparing and managing recipients while keeping transfer timing aligned with the embryo plan.
Plan Recipients Early
Recipient options should be discussed when scheduling your IVF or embryo transfer procedure so the right pathway is in place before embryos are ready.
Why Recipient Options Work for Your Operation
The best recipient plan is the one that fits your facilities, labor, timing and comfort level while giving embryos the right opportunity after transfer.
Choose the recipient path that fits your herd size, facilities, location and management preferences.
Trans Ova-managed recipients can help reduce the time, labor and coordination required to prepare recipients yourself.
If you use your own recipients, your Trans Ova team can help coordinate timing, synchronization and transfer planning.
Connect embryo creation, recipient readiness and transfer timing before the transfer date arrives.
Healthy, well-managed and properly synchronized recipients help support the best opportunity for pregnancy.
Talk through availability, expectations and responsibilities before choosing the option that fits your plan.

What Supports Recipient Success?
Recipient success is built through preparation, timing and management. The strongest plans focus on the details before embryos are ready to transfer.
Recipient Health
Recipients should be healthy, properly managed and ready to support pregnancy.
Synchronization Timing
Recipient timing must align closely with embryo stage and transfer schedule.
Transfer Readiness
Facilities, records, recipient identification and the transfer team should be ready before transfer day.
Recipient Planning by Program Type
Recipient needs can vary by species, operation type and transfer plan. Start early so the right recipients are prepared when embryos are ready.
Beef
Beef producers may use client-owned recipients or Trans Ova-managed recipient options to support seedstock, show or commercial embryo programs. The best fit depends on recipient availability, facilities, labor and timing.
Dairy
Dairy producers may use recipients already managed within the herd or choose Trans Ova-managed options where available. Recipient planning should align with herd flow, synchronization timing and the overall embryo strategy.

Client-owned recipients should be healthy, properly synchronized and managed to support pregnancy. Requirements can vary by program, species, embryo type and transfer plan, so your Trans Ova team will help you understand what needs to be in place.
Recipient synchronization needs to be planned before the transfer date so timing lines up with the embryos. Start the conversation early, especially if you are coordinating IVF, embryo transfer, Fresh Ship or on-farm transfer.
The number of recipients depends on your embryo expectations, transfer goals and whether you want backup recipients available. Your Trans Ova team can help estimate recipient needs based on the specific procedure and plan.
Trans Ova-managed recipient availability and housing depend on location, timing and program capacity. Contact your Trans Ova representative to understand which recipient options are available for your plan.
In many cases, client-owned recipients can be used for on-farm transfer when location, timing, facilities and transfer-team availability align. Your Trans Ova team can help determine whether that option fits your operation.
