At Trans Ova Genetics, we’re proud to stand at the intersection of innovation and legacy, and there’s no better example than our recent collaboration with Tate Coulter, owner of TSC Showpigs Tams Can LLC (“TSC Showpigs”), to clone “Tammy,” one of the most influential Tamworth females in the modern showpig industry.
This project represents the best of what Trans Ova Genetics Advanced Technologies (TOGAT) offers: powerful tools for genetic preservation, cloning, and reproductive success, tailored to meet the needs of progressive livestock producers looking to carry forward elite lines.
Tammy’s impact on the Tamworth breed speaks for itself. As the Champion Tamworth Gilt and Grand Overall Gilt at the Delaware County Fair, she became the cornerstone of the TSC Showpigs program. Her lineage includes:
Understanding the rare opportunity to preserve these genetics, Tate Coulter entered into a genetic preservation and cloning agreement with Trans Ova. The project involved cell culture and embryo development by our elite TOGAT cloning team in Sioux Center, Iowa, followed by a successful embryo transfer led by Dr. Amber Hazel and Diane Broek in July 2024.
In November, the result of that effort arrived in the form of our largest litter of the season: eleven healthy Tamworth gilts, delivered at our Product Multiplier Unit (PMU) in Glencoe, Minnesota, under the direction of Brian Milbrand.
Tate made the trip from Indiana to Minnesota to personally pick up these nine genetic gems. “It’s rare to find a female as influential as Tammy,” Coulter said. “Having nine clones of her is a true blessing. We’re extremely grateful for the amazing work done by the TOGAT team.”
In a unique twist, Tate Coulter is not only a passionate livestock breeder, he’s also an intellectual property attorney at Barnes & Thornburg LLP, where he works in a practice group that represents Trans Ova on trademark and patent matters. See Tate Coulter | Barnes & Thornburg.
This project represents more than just cloning success: it’s a testament to the collaboration between innovation, science, and the producers who believe in the power of genetics.
We are deeply proud of the TOGAT porcine cloning team whose work made this possible:
Dan Faber, Travis Hofmeyer, Ashley Van Egdom, Shelby Franken, Quinn Byker, Madison Swank, Brenna Jasper, Mick Visser, Dr. Amber Hazel, Diane Broek, and Brian Milbrand.
We’re thankful to Tate Coulter and TSC Showpigs for trusting Trans Ova with this extraordinary project. We can’t wait to follow the impact these cloned Tammys will have on the future of Tamworth genetics.
Innovation starts here with clients like TSC Showpigs, the future of livestock reproduction has never looked brighter.
