Recipient Options

OPTIONS TO MEET SPECIFIC BREEDER GOALS

Trans Ova Genetics offers several options for implanting  embryos recovered from donor cows or heifers into recipient cows. Three recipient programs are offered to Trans Ova Genetics’ clients seeking herd-building options. These options do not risk the health and performance of their valuable calves or other cattle in their herd.  These options include Health-Certified Recipients, the Multiplier Herd Program, and the Live Calf Program.

HEALTH-CERTIFIED RECIPIENTS

Using Angus-based females, Trans Ova Genetics offers health-qualified  recipient cows chosen for top health status, body condition and docile behavior. Trans Ova Genetics’ health-certification includes serological screening for BVD (bovince virus diarrhea), Johne’s Disease, BLV (leukosis), Anaplasmosis, Brucellosis and Neospora.
Recipients are confirmed pregnant with client embryos at 40 days and again at 60 days.   At that time they areultrasounded to determine/confirm the sex of the calf. The pregnant  health-certified recipients are purchased by the client after 60 days and will be transported to their own herds for gestation and calving as part of their own calf crop.

MULTIPLIER HERD PROGRAM

Trans Ova Genetics offers progressive cattlemen the opportunity to increase their revenue usingtheir existing assets while also offering an alternative gestation vehicle for the owners of elite cows.. The Multiplier Program can help cooperator herds secure a premium for elite calf-crop performance, while Trans Ova Genetics matches management systems with elite breeders’ goals. Multiplier herds that deliver results get rewarded and elite breeders benefit from this weaned calf option.
Trans Ova Genetics works with producers to estrus-synchronize their cattle and then transfer embryos from elite donors.  Producers gestate these elite calves using their own cows.  The calves are then raised to weaning age, when they are sold back to the original embryo owners.  Prices are set prior to embryo transfer, so both cost and performance measures are predetermined.

LIVE CALF PROGRAM

Trans Ova Genetics’ Live Calf Program is an option for our dairy clients.  Trans Ova Genetics has a large herd of beef recipients health tested for several diseases, including BVD, BLV,, Johne’s Disease, Brucellosis, Anaplasmosis and Neospora.  Embryos are implanted into synchronous beef recipients by Trans Ova Genetics and gestated to full term at the Trans Ova facilities.  Trans Ova Genetics calves these beef recipients, removing the calf before it is able to nurse.  These calves are raised on a bottle, in an outdoor hut.  Calves are purchased and available for pick up while they are still on the bottle, between 30-45 days of age.  All risk of pregnancy loss and calf loss is assumed by Trans Ova Genetics, so all that the client pays for is a “Live Calf” at 30 days of age.
